What is Distance Learning? Is it an educational revolution, as some have proposed, or is it exaggerated hype of another learning method? Perhaps a good place to answer this question is a dictionary definition. The American Heritage Dictionary of English Language defines distance education in which students of the universities in training and access to information and communication with the instructor asynchronously over a computer network. Similarly, designation of distance education.

OK, that’s a good start, but what this means? How “of asynchronous communication with the monitor” have something to do with educational revolution? In response, we consider the distance a little more closely.

Asynchronous is a word that means “out of sync” or “something that does not work regularly or at predetermined intervals. In the application, on education, it simply means that the teaching and learning is done not at the same time. Therefore, the asynchronous communication over a computer network does not require co-participation of trainers and students. With learning, teachers and students are by time and space, literally, ” distance.

It is certainly a revolutionary point of traditional training. Given that students should not, with the teacher in the same place at the same time, they are not the constraints of the rigid class times and locations. Asynchronous communication e-learning allows students greater flexibility in development at a time and place that best suits their schedules.

Although the concept of distance learning is often used interchangeably with distance education, there is a subtle difference, but between the two. One might say, they are really two sides of the same coin. The difference between the two is the priority. Distance learning students focus on education, focusing on the learner and the learning process. Learning in companies, on the other hand, emphasis on education, focusing more on the process of education and teachers.

The sharp increase in the popularity of distance e-learning is at least in part on the flexibility and convenience never before, it offers students participating. With learning, the student should not be constrained by the objectives of the educational activity, the responsibility of the family, or a series of other obstacles that impede the learning of past May.

The distance, or even substitute for training programs. For example, if an application is not available locally, it is likely that the student can enroll in online courses, even if the course is far from the school, where the life of the student. For those in peripheral regions, are in custody or physical disabilities or other restrictions that prevent participation in a traditional school, distance learning in May is best for training.

While differences in methods of service, date and place of the instruction may not necessarily revolutionary, there is little or no difference between the curriculum and distance training. Generally, the results of learning in the same deviation from the traditional campus education. Although the instruction asynchronously is the time for instruction as well as the traditional classroom. E-learning, students often use the same textbooks and other materials, such as class city. After its conclusion, there is no distinction on the College to determine if the course is traditional or online.

The distance is a pedagogical revolution, or is it just a chance to learn another method of the Hype? May, the answer is not as clear, a mere observer, but also for online students, the answer is clear. With just a computer and Internet access, millions of students worldwide who otherwise would not be able to explore, in a position to do so with programs of distance education. For these students, distance education is a chance for education revolutionary proportions.
